The Lubbock City Council will consider renovations to the Maggie Trejo Super Center and consider granting a variance to a city ordinance concerning alcohol sales at their February 12 meeting.

Council members will consider the execution of a contract with Stiles, Wallace & Associates to renovate the Maggie Trejo Super Center. If approved, the company will make renovations recommended by a comprehensive study that was received by council members in February 2013.

According to the council, $71,053 of more than $2 million available for facility renovations will be appropriated for the project.

The council will also consider granting a variance to a city ordinance that established business selling alcohol must be 300-feet from any public or private schools.

Raider Mart at 29th and University requested the variance for off-premise alcohol sales due to their proximity to Texas Tech. According to the council agenda, many other businesses along 4th St. and University Ave. have made similar requests.

Council members are also slated to consider one appointment to the Zoning Board of Adjustment; the appointment was postponed at the last meeting.
