At Thursday’s Lubbock City Council meeting, the council will consider the First Reading of an ordinance which would change the speed limit for a one-mile stretch of Frankford Avenue.

The speed limit on Frankford from 98th Street to 114th Street would be reduced from 55 mph to 50 mph. The 55 mph speed limit would remain on Frankford, south of 114th Street to the southern city limits.

The other changes to the city’s Speed Limit Ordinance would essentially maintain current speed limits to newer parts of the city annexed over the past few years.

For example, a 45 mph speed limit would be maintained on a three-mile stretch of University Avenue from the South Loop to 114th Street.

Slide Road’s speed limit from 99th Street to FM 1585 (130th Street) would stay 60 mph and a 65 mph speed limit would remain on Slide Road south of FM 1585.

A 60 mph speed limit would also remain in effect on FM 1585 from Slide Road, east to University Avenue.

A 75 mph speed limit would be officially added to a stretch of Clovis Road (US Highway 84) from Slide Road to the western city limits.

Thursday evening’s city council meeting starts at 5:15pm at City Hall.
