Tuesday on The Chad Hasty Show, Hasty talked about an article in the Lubbock Avalanche Journal, covering the upcoming Lubbock City Council public work session planning the city's budget.

The goal of the session is to separate the city's needs versus wants, and to plan for financing of the city's growing debt. As it now stands, Lubbock's budget would increase city debt by 7 percent, with a total principle increase of about $76.9 million in fiscal year 2016-2017. The city's total debt, including interest, would be approximately $1.75 billion.

About the increase, Hasty said,

Didn't just about everybody running for City Council say we gotta lower the debt? Like debt was one of the, if not the number one issue, it was top three.

The third public work session on the city budget takes place today, August 09, 2016, at City Hall beginning at 4:00 p.m.
