The Monterey High School Football team will get a boost Saturday for their regional playoff game. The Lubbock Christian University (LCU) Chaparral Band will accompany the team to Midland for their matchup with Birdville.

The Monterey Band will be at the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) region auditions on the same day as the playoff game. The auditions serve as the qualifying event for All-State band auditions.

Lubbock ISD Fine Arts Director Will Burks said in a press release, “We’re so grateful to Andrew Babcock and the Lubbock Christian University Band for stepping up to play at the Monterey playoff game so that our talented MHS band students can be involved in auditions leading to the All-State process.”

Andrew Babcock, Director of the LCU Band said, “Ultimately, the decision to do this was the kids, not mine.  It was something they wanted to do and I am pleased and humbled by their willingness to help out during such a busy time in their semester.

We just want to be there to support Monterey High School and help them in any way we   can--that will be our mission on Saturday.”

Monterey takes on Birdville on Saturday, December 1st in Midland.
