Some members of Lubbock-area law enforcement will be supporting a notable set of summer games next week.

Officers and deputies from the Lubbock Police Department, Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office, Lubbock County Adult Probation, Lubbock SWAT, ATF, and the Plainview Police Department will participate in the Area 17 Torch Run.

On May 25th, the South Plains area officers will meet up with hundreds of law enforcement officers from across the state at the 2012 Summer Games in Arlington, Texas.

On the morning of Wednesday, May 23rd, the Torch Run officers will be escorted down Avenue Q from the Civic Center. The event begins at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center at 7:30 a.m., and the send-off will begin at 8 a.m.

The Torch Run Officers event benefits Special Olympics Texas. More than 3,600 Special Olympics Texas athletes from across the state will compete in a variety of competitions.
