Lubbock police are now searching for a Hispanic man who’s impersonating Lubbock Power & Light employees. The suspect has already stolen from one victim.

Wednesday, October 5, the suspect went to a home in the 5600 block of 38th Street and presented himself as an LP&L employee.  The scam artist told the home owner that he needed to check the hot water heater for leaks.

She allowed the man to enter the home and after she went to turn on a water faucet, the man escaped the home with her wallet. The suspect, who has been described as a Hispanic man, was also wearing a City of Lubbock hat and orange vest.

Other areas of town in which this scam was tried include the 2000 block of Albany Avenue and the 5300 block of 20th Street. The suspect was most likely driving a white Dodge Charger with a rear tire that was a spare.

LP&L has been notified of this impersonator and is now working closely with LPD in order to catch him.

According to KAMC News, LP&L has released the following statement:

We want our customers to be aware of the fact that LP&L employees will never seek to enter a customer's home in any situation.  LP&L's responsibility is to maintain electrical service up to a customer's meter and any electrical service on the customer's side of the meter, including the wiring inside of their home, is out of the purview of LP&L.

Any information can be called into the Crime Line at 741-0000.
