In a monthly meeting held on Tuesday (June 21), Lubbock Power and Light approved a rate increase that will take effect in October.

The third base rate increase in LPL’s five-year plan will jump up the rate by 5.75 percent.

The increase is expected to raise an additional $3.5 million that will go towards the funding of two major projects. One being an upgrade to the internal transmission system, and the other including changes to the customer billing system.

On average, customers can expect $1.86 to be added to their monthly bill during the winter months and $2.51 during the summer.
