Lower Colorado River Authority officials are threatening to withhold water from Texas rice farmers.

Three counties will not be receiving the water needed to flood fields dependent on reservoir levels Friday.

If the combined storage of lakes Buchanan and Travis are below 850,000 acre-feet then River Officials will not allow water to be supplied to rice producers in Matagorda, Colorado and Wharton counties.

Yesterday, Thursday, the storage was 823,551 acre-feet, making it unlikely that any rain that might fall on Friday would replenish the lakes to the requisite level.

If the board cuts off downstream water supplies it will be the second time in state history and the second year in a row that the authority cut off water to rice producers.
