One man is in the hospital after an argument ended in a shooting Wednesday morning.

Just after 12:26 a.m. on December 13, 2017, Lubbock police officers responded to 2514 Bates Street after a man called 9-1-1 claiming to have been shot by a gun.

Officers soon discovered 40-year-old Rene Pena with a gunshot wound to his right shoulder. He was taken to University Medical Center with what police described as a serious, but non-life-threatening injury.

So far, police have determined that the shooting took place at a different location than where Pena was found. He had reportedly driven to a residence at 2408 Colgate Avenue prior to the shooting, where he got into an altercation of some kind with more than one person.

That’s when, police say, an unknown suspect approached Pena in his vehicle and shot him a single time. Pena managed to drive away despite his injury and called 9-1-1.
