Local firefighters responded to several grass fires over the weekend across the South Plains.

At around noon on Sunday (May 6), at least two large grass fires were reported. The first was located in the 9200 block of Canoga Avenue in Wolfforth. The fire, which threatened several structures in the area, was put out around 1 p.m.

The 2nd fire was put out Sunday afternoon in the 4600 block of Woodrow Road. The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office, Woodrow and Slaton Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene.

On Saturday (May 5), a fire occurred near FM 579 and North CR 2800. Abernathy, Idalou, and Abernathy Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the fire. KAMC News reports fire crews were working on the fire Saturday evening.
