Local Democrat Announces Candidacy for Texas House District 84

Wednesday evening, Samantha Carrillo Fields announced her candidacy in the 2018 Democrat Party Primary for Texas House District 84.

Fields' candidacy guarantees that Democrats will field a candidate in at least one local race next year.

Fields is a Lubbock native, a 2005 graduate of Monterey High School, and she earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern New Mexico University.

During her campaign announcement Fields said, "I am going to enter into this fight not between Republicans and Democrats, not even between rich and poor, but between the living and dying.

"While representatives could have taken steps to lower our tax burden, while they could have gotten us to the doctor, and while they could have been empowering Texans, they chose to fight for hate. They chose to fight for the power of 'no'. They chose to ignore us and what they knew could have brought some well deserved relief," said Fields.

Republican John Frullo (Lubbock), who is the current representative for House District 84, is expected to announce his re-election campaign in the near future.
