On Monday's edition of Lubbock's First News, LISD's Nancy Sharp talked with Tom Collins and Laura Mac about some of the upcoming changes coming to LISD for the 2013-2014 school year.

Today is the first day of district-wide registration for all new LISD students. Sharp said that, in order to register children for LISD, parents must bring their child's original birth certificate, plus proof of residency, the child's social security card and a current shot record. Sharp added that this is is only for students who are new to LISD, and children who have already registered at their campuses or at central office do not need to register again.

One of the changes coming to LISD will be closed campuses and new cafeterias for LISD high schools. Sharp explained that the new cafeterias will be structured like student union buildings on college campuses and will feature a number of outside vendors, such as Red Mango and Chick-Fil-A. Sharp also announced the grand opening of PlainsCapital Park, LISD's new athletic complex, which will be held on Sunday, August 25th for 2 PM to 4 PM.
