Tuesday on Lubbock's First News, Will Burkes, Fine Arts Director for Lubbock ISD, spoke about band students who will compete in the all state competition.

The students will travel to San Antonio to complete auditions in San Antonio before beginning a week of rehearsals for the competition on Saturday. These students will participate as a part of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA). There are three band students, three orchestra students, and six choir students headed to the competition.

Cooper ISD will be moving from the Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATS) to the TMEA this year because they have become a 5A school, making them too big a school for the ATS. For results of the competition, visit the TMEA website Wednesday. Burkes believes "they will compete fine when they move into TMEA."

Burkes also reminded listeners that March is Youth Art Month. During March, students' art will be hung at the Underwood Center and Glassy Alley Gallery.
