Thursday on Lubbock's First News, Kacy Lowe, Senior Director of the North Texas Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, gave details on how to get a free pretzel on National Pretzel Day and support the Society.

On Saturday, April 26, from 1-7 p.m., Pretzel Maker in the South Plains Mall will be handing out free pretzels and encouraging donations to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The goal of Pretzel Makers across the nation is to hand out 65,000 free pretzels this year. In addition to this opportunity, the Society has benefited from a fundraiser that eight schools in the Lubbock area have conducted to raise over $4,000. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society has a major focus on funding research because there is currently no early detection or prevention of these cancers. Aside from research, the Society provides direct financial assistance programs for patients undergoing treatment, support groups, and financial information. Lowe said, "We're trying to put ourselves out of a job so that there is no blood cancer anymore."
