Leonid Meteor Shower to Light Up Our West Texas Sky Tonight

The Leonid Meteor shower will peak tonight and is said to be best visible in central and western locations. (Hey, that's us!) The peak is late tonight (Thursday, Nov. 17) into very early Friday morning.

Conditions should be mostly clear tonight, but between a few clouds and the still bright post-Supermoon, visibility could be slightly diminished. The Leonids are not in a major outburst, so expect to see 10-15 meteor trails light up per minute. In 1966, it was 2,000 per minute. Can you imagine how lovely that must have been?

So grab some wine (if so inclined), a blanket and someone you love and watch the stars burst tonight. You deserve it.

If you can't catch it tonight, the Leonids will continue in smaller bursts until the end of the month.
