Tuesday, the Second Election for Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees, District 1 was held between incumbent Mario Ybarra and Lala Chavez.

Ybarra and Chavez tied on May 7th election with 747 votes each, prompting the Second Election.

When Early Voting was released Chavez was leading Ybarra 335 (54.2%) votes to 300 (45.8%) in the Second Election.  According to the Lubbock County Elections Office, 304 people voted on Election Day.  With the margin of Chavez's lead after Early Voting, Ybarra would have to pick up 56% of Election Day voting (170 votes) to overcome Chavez's lead.

When the final results were released, Chavez earned 52.7% (514) of the vote, compared to Ybarra's 47.3% (462).

Turnout for the Second Election was 63% of the ballots cast for the May 7th election.
