Kliff Kingsbury started his weekly press conference with a statement, something he doesn't normally do. But this Tuesday isn't your normal Tuesday in Lubbock, Texas.

The head coach's statement focused on the fatal shooting that occurred Monday night on the Texas Tech campus. A TTUPD officer, identified as Floyd East Jr., was shot and killed at the department's station.

"On behalf of our football program, I'd like to offer our condolences to the family of the fallen officer and the entire Texas Tech Police Department," Kingsbury said. "We obviously work closely with those guys at Texas Tech PD and it's a tough situation for everyone involved."

Kingsbury said he was grateful for the "immediate response and communication" from the university and local law enforcement that helped keep citizens safe during the active shooter situation on campus.

A suspect, 19-year-old Hollis A. Daniels, was apprehended for the shooting and charged with Capital Murder of a Peace Officer. According to an arrest warrant issued for Daniels, he confessed to the crime. Daniels is being held at the Lubbock County Jail on a $5 million dollar bond.
