Two new faces will be seen among the Lady Raider basketball staff.

Katie Hensle has been chosen as the new assistant coach to serve under head coach Kristy Curry.

Hensle has served as the head coach at John Paul II High School in Plano, Texas, where her team advanced to the TAPPS 5A state playoffs in her first two seasons, and finished as the runner-up in that particular contest in 2011. She leaves that position with an overall record of 107-39.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to join such a quality program and to work with a great staff led by a head coach committed to excellence on and off the court,” said Hensle.

Hensle’s duties will include working with the point guards, as well as scouting and recruiting. She replaces Brooke Stoehr, who left Texas Tech for a position as co-head coach at Northwestern State in Louisiana.

A new graduate assistant has been chosen for the Lady Raiders as well. Layne Reeves, a Lubbock native, comes back to the South Plains after spending her collegiate career at Nebraska. Reeves played for three seasons, but several knee surgeries caused an early ending to her career as a player. She played 25 games, and hit 39 percent from the field, and 52 percent from the 3-point range.

Reeves’ father, Ron Reeves, played as a four-year starter at quarterback for Texas Tech from 1978 through 1981, and was drafted by the Houston Oilers in 1982. He was been inducted into the Texas Tech Hall of Honor in 2007.
