U.S. Senator John Cornyn today criticized a new Pentagon contract with a Russian-based firm that is supplying arms to Syria.

Cornyn said, “As we speak the Assad regime continues its murderous campaign against its own people with the implicit blessing of Moscow, and the Pentagon’s refusal to seek out alternatives to Rosoboron Export cements the utter disconnect between the President’s stated policy in Syria and our actions abroad.”

Cornyn sent a letter in June to Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta on his concerns with the Pentagon the Russian firm’s relationship to arming the Assad regime in Syria.

The UN Security Council vote to condemn Syria and Assad over the death’s civilians during the year long struggle was vetoed by Russia and China.
