A Big Spring Police Department detective has been charged with several crimes connected to alleged indecent relations with three female victims, two of which were underage.

According to the Big Spring Police Department, Detective Joel Rojo has been charged with three counts of Official Oppression (a class A Misdemeanor), one count of Indecency with a Child (a 3rd degree Felony) and one count of Sexual performance by a Child (a 1st degree Felony).

The investigation into Detective Rojo dates back to August 20, 2015 after an individual contacted Big Spring Police Department Chief Chad Williams with allegations that led to a preliminary investigation with assistance by Texas Rangers.

Detective Rojo was placed on paid administrative leave a day later pending the investigation's outcome.

According to the department, during the course of the investigation into the claim of misconduct against Detective Rojo, two other separate victims came forward with their own independent allegations.

The allegations claimed Detective Rojo "coerced and induced the three females at different times and locations into compromising situations," the department said in a press release, adding that two of the three females were minors during the alleged incidents.
