Will the Democrats in Texas actually have a big name candidate running for Governor? According to the Dallas Morning News, Congressman Joaquin Castro, twin brother of Julian Castro, is considering jumping into the race.

Castro has been a member of Congress since 2013 and earlier in the year decided against running for U.S. Senate against Ted Cruz. According to the Dallas Morning News, Democrats in Texas approached Castro about running against Greg Abbott for Governor and he is weighing his options.

Castro was expected to seek re-election to Congress where the odds would be in his favor. Running a state-wide campaign in Texas would pose a challenge to the 42-year-old Democrat. Abbott defeated Wendy Davis in 2014 by 20% and Texas is still a deeply red state.
