On the Friday edition of The Chad Hasty Show, Lubbock City Councilman Jim Gerlt joined the show in the KFYO studio to talk about his campaign for reelection and other topics regarding the city.

Gerlt and Hasty discussed several issues including Gerlt's experience, the police department and the possibility of police substations, as well as downtown redevelopment.

While talking about city finances and the city's purchase of Citizen's Tower (formerly the Omni Building), Gerlt discussed vandalism and structural issues facing the building and how the city needs to deal with it.

"Five years from now, 10 years from now, when this Omni Building, Citizen's Tower, is a crown jewel of downtown redevelopment, not as a 'Taj Mahal,' but as something that people are proud of, I think we are going to have citizens saying, 'Thank goodness we had some council members who had the courage to do what needed to be done," Gerlt said.
