Thursday on Lubbock's First News, Eddie Owens, Director of Communications and Public Relations for United Supermarkets, gave the names of the teachers who won the Teachers on the Rise award for the month of January.

The three February teachers are Sharon Zimwalt from Roscoe Wilson Elementary, Mandy Wenton from  Laura Bush from Middle School, and Becca Barry Hill from Lubbock Cooper High School.

The program allows students to nominate the teachers they think are doing the best job at their school. Every month, an elementary, junior high, and high school teacher are chose to receive the award. To nominate a teacher, students can log onto www.MrsBTeacher.com to tell why their teacher should receive the recognition. Winning teachers receive a $100 United Supermarkets gift card and a $100 VISA gift card. The student that makes the winning nomination receives a $50 VISA gift card.

Owens said, the results of this program are "'when you realize what kind of impact these folks, who are so often unheralded or underheralded at best, are having on kids' lives."
