The Idalou man charged with sexually abusing a relative of Holli Jeffcoat over the course of several years believes he is being held for an "unreasonable" bail amount.

James Holland was arrested and booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center Thursday, March 10 for continued Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child against a relative of his stepdaughter Holli Jeffcoat. Bail was set at $2 million -- an amount Holland's lawyer Fred Stangl says is too much.

"No probable cause exists to hold [James Holland] on the complaint charged," the motion said (via Everything Lubbock). "[Holland] would further show that he is entitled to be admitted to bail and can secure bail in a reasonable amount, but that bail has heretofore been set by Justice of the Peace, Precinct #1 in the amount of $2,000,000.00, and that this amount is unreasonable and is in effect a denial of bail."

A judge will hear the request Thursday, March 31.

Holli Jeffcoat was found dead inside her home February 10. The 18-year-old girl, identified as special needs, was stabbed multiple times. Authorities ruled her death a homicide.

Since then, several shocking details have come out regarding Jeffcoat, including that she claimed she was pregnant by a family member and that her mother allegedly knew about the sexual abuse.

A second family member and relative of Jeffcoat eventually came forward, saying she too was sexually abused by Holland, leading to his arrest.

No arrests have been made in either the sexual assault or murder of Holli Jeffcoat.
