A budget process that received national attention because of controversial comments by County Judge Tom Head has  come to an end.  Commissioners have approved budgets for the county and the hospital district.  Commissioner Patti Jones said the resulting tax increase will not be huge:

“When you put it in perspective, it’s going to be a $1.71 a month.  That’s less than two dollar menus at McDonald’s, once a month.”

The tax increase will help pay for expenses  in the sheriff’s department and district attorney’s office.  The new budget year begins October 1.
