During the first round of voting in the Republican primary for the Senate, Tom Leppert called fellow candidates Ted Cruz and David Dewhurst “empty suits.”  Now Leppert is endorsing Dewhurst over Cruz in the run-off, which led to this question for Leppert on KFYO.

Question:  When you take into account the “empty suit” comment, doesn’t that make this an empty endorsement?

Leppert: I don’t think so. I think again you look at the two candidates.  You try to make the assessment of who could do the best job and who brings the best background to it.   After a lot of consideration and visiting with both individuals, I believe  that we’ve got to have people that bring that experience and that perspective, and the lieutenant governor does.
