The Lubbock police officer who was struck by a vehicle back on May 30th is suing the driver for one million or more dollars.

Officer Corey Owens spent significant time in the hospital and suffered serious injuries including the amputation of his right foot when he was hit by car driven by Jesse Tello, whom reportedly had alcohol on his breath and struggled to recite the ABC's following the accident.

Owens plans to sue Tello for failing to operate the vehicle at a safe speed, failure to keep a look-out, and failure to keep control of his vehicle among other failures.

Owens also indicated Tello should pay damages for pain, anguish, disfigurement, and lost wages.

Jesse Tello who is currently in jail in lieu of $200,000 bond, was notified of the lawsuit last Friday, July 17.
