Texas Governor Rick Perry’s new task force on infectious disease will convene in Austin later this month for the first time to discuss the ongoing threat of the Ebola Virus.

Perry issued an executive order on October 6 creating the Texas Task Force on Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response – a 15-member Task Force including experts in infectious disease, bio-defense experts and a gamut of state agency professionals. One of the members is Texas Tech Law School Dean Vicki Sutton.

According to a press release from the Governor’s office, the group’s initial areas of focus will include hospital preparedness, rapid diagnosis procedures, waste and contaminant disposal, and care of patients.

The hearing will be held at the Texas State Capitol on Thursday, October 23.
