The federal government runs out of money at Midnight and if no deal is reached for a short-term spending bill, we will see a government shutdown. While government shutdowns may seem doom and gloom, essential government services remain open like the U.S. military.

The House passed a spending bill Thursday that included a 6-year extension of CHIP (Children's Health Insurance Plan) and included enough money to keep the government open until February 16th. The temporary spending bill did not address DACA.

Democrats in the House opposed the measure and Senate Democrats announced Thursday that they had the votes to block the bill in the Senate. While Republicans control both the House and Senate, 60 votes are needed in the Senate to avoid a filibuster. Democrats are demanding that any short term bill includes language targeting DACA recipients.

If the government shuts down at Midnight on Friday, who do you blame?
