Some downtown Lubbock streets will be closed for an annual Lubbock event this week.

The 11th Annual Hub City BBQ Cook-off will take place on Thursday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., but the street closures will be in place from 6 a.m. Wednesday, September 19th through 8 a.m. Friday.

The streets that will be closed are Broadway from Avenue N to Avenue K, Avenue L between Broadway and Main Street, and Avenue K between Broadway and Main Street.

The closures will impact eastbound and westbound traffic on Broadway between Avenue N and Avenue K, and northbound and southbound traffic on Avenues L and K. Motorists in the area are urged to find alternate routes.

The entry gates for the event are at Broadway and Avenue N, Broadway east of Avenue K, and Main and Avenue L.

More than 100 teams will compete for the title of best BBQ in the area. Categories include brisket and ribs, other meats, and grilled desserts.

Granger Smith, along with Jason Nutt and Highway 70, and Mariachi Carino will perform at the event.

Tickets are $20 through Tuesday, September 18th, $10 for students with a valid ID, and admission for children ages five and under is free. Admission at the gate is $25 and students with ID get in for $15.

For tickets, call the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce at 761-7000 or visit www.hubcitybbq.com, or any Select-a-Seat location.
