Two Houston police officers are facing conspiracy and bribery charges related to cocaine smuggling.

Officer Emerson Canizales of Kingwood and Officer Michael Miceli of Humble have been arrested on the indictment of conspiracy to possess cocaine with intent to distribute and accepting bribes for protection services.

The two were arrested Wednesday as they reported for duty and, according to a Houston Police spokesman, have been relieve of duty with pay pending resolution of the case.

The charges stem from accusation from investigators that in December the two officers accepted $1,000 in a conspiracy to possess cocaine and provide protection for its smuggling.

The investigation was conducted with help from police internal affairs, though prosecutors have not yet provided any additional details.
