Some late Lubbockites will be remembered this week.

The annual Hospice of Lubbock “Light up a Life” fundraiser will kick off Thursday, December 1st with a tree-lighting ceremony. Supporters have the opportunity to sign a card in memory of those who have passed away or in honor of those still living.

The tree-lighting ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in front of Haverty’s, located at 74th and Quaker Avenue. A $25 handcrafted angel ornament will also be for sale, to help support the Light Up a Life campaign.

The cards will be displayed on the second Light Up a Life tree, located at the entrance of the South Plains Mall closest to Barnes and Noble.

“Remembering our patients and special people we have known lights up our lives as well,” said Charley Wasson, director of Hospice of Lubbock. “Our work with the terminally ill is dependent on your generosity.”

Hospice of Lubbock’s goal is to raise $60,000 before Christmas of this year. Hospice provides end-of-life care and bereavement services for all terminally ill patients and their families, regardless of ability to pay.
