CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — Authorities in South Texas say officers have shot and killed a man who was one of several suspects involved in an early-morning home invasion.

Corpus Christi police say the man died at an apartment complex Wednesday after he and others were seen leaving an apartment.

Authorities say a woman in the apartment called police to say a group of men had forced their way in, had assaulted people inside and were taking items with them. At least one was armed with a gun.

It wasn't clear why officers were prompted to fire on the man who was killed.

Another man was arrested and at least one other fled as police arrived.

Police Chief Mike Markle told KRIS-TV that the number of home invasions in the city "have ramped up" recently.
