Here are just a few things in Chad’s Pile that you will hear on Lubbock’s First News this morning. Give Chad your feedback on the steaming topics.

1. Rick Perry surges (link)

Okay, I was wrong. It didn't take Rick Perry a couple of weeks to sit atop some national polls. It only took a few days. The latest Rasmussen poll shows Perry with a healthy 29% of registered voters. Mitt Romney comes in second place with 18%. According to KFYO News:

Among those polled by Rasmussen, Perry has a commanding lead over Bachmann at 39% to 21% in those who described themselves as Tea Party activists and even has a lead over Romney in those who describe themselves as non-Tea Party participants at 27% to 24%.

Not bad.

2. Clinton opposes Budget cuts (link)

Looks like we might have a little fight between Hillary Clinton and President Obama.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned Tuesday against budget cuts that could force an abrupt pullout of the US security presence in the Pacific at a time when China's power is rising.

"We need to have a responsible conversation about how we are going to prepare ourselves for the future and there are a lot of issues that are not in the headlines but are in the trendlines," she said.

"We are asserting our presence in the Pacific. We are a Pacific power. That means all elements of our national security team have to be present," the chief US diplomat said in a conversation with Defense Secretary Leon Panetta.

"And we can't be abruptly pulling back or pulling out when we know we face some long-term challenges about how we are going to cope with what the rise of China means," she said in the conversation moderated by CNN television.

3. Obama warns Perry (link)

In an interview with CNN, President Obama warned Governor Rick Perry about the things he chooses to say. According to a video from Real Clear Politics, here is the exchange:

WOLF BLITZER, HOST, CNN'S "THE SITUATION ROOM": Rick Perry, the governor of Texas, Republican presidential candidate now, says, the men and women of the United States military want someone who's worn the uniform. He says he served in the Air Force.

Do you see a comment like that, that he makes, referring to you, as disrespectful to the commander in chief?

BARACK OBAMA, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: You know, Mr. Perry just got into the presidential race. I think that everybody who runs for president, it probably takes them a little bit of time before they start realizing that this isn't like running for governor or running for senator or running for Congress, and you've got to be a little more careful about what you say.

But I'll cut him some slack. He's only been at it for a few days now.
