Texas Tech junior Kimmy Hill fired a 4-under 68 and followed it with an even par 70 on Monday to help push Tech into fourth place after two rounds at the UC-Irvine Invitational.

Tech (286-296-582) is only 16 shots off the lead behind No. 4 Washington and is three shots ahead of No. 24 San Diego State and 16 shots in front of No. 5 Stanford.

Hill is tied for second with Texas A&M's Marijosse Navarro (72-68--140). They trail leader Gabriella Then of USC by two strokes heading into Tuesday's final round.

The tournament partnered with Kia for the third consecutive year in offering a sponsor's exemption to the Kia Classic to the medalist winner, making it the only event of its kind. The 2015 Kia Classic will be played March 23-29 at the Aviara Golf Club.

Junior Sarah Brown is tied for 15th after a 145 total on the first day (72-73) and senior Stephanie Bertelsen is just two shots behind in a tie for 23rd at 3-over par (68-79--147).

Lauren Mason, making her first appearance for Tech, is in a tie for 48th at 9-over. She rebounded with a 1-over 73 after opening the tournament with an 8-over 80.

Senior Elin Arvidsson rounded out the scores with a 164 (77-87).

Tech will tee off in the final round on the first hole beginning at 7:45 a.m. PT alongside No. 24 San Diego State and No. 48 SMU.
