Hell's Gate in Lubbock, located behind the Lubbock Cemetery, has been the subject of folklore and scary stories for years. It does hold mysteries and a certain eerie atmosphere. But is it haunted?

In Darrell Maloney's book Haunted Lubbock, there are several stories of people encountering shadowy figures after dark, hearing "otherworldly" type noises and people feeling as if they were being watched.

I went out during the afternoon to check it out and while there is definitely an eerie atmosphere and smell, I didn't encounter anything that caused me to cut and run.

Maloney says that the reports he's heard say the atmosphere changes dramatically at night and it's described as terrifying.
