Officials and guests of the Texas Tech University System will host a groundbreaking ceremony to launch the first phase of construction for the School of Theatre & Dance Complex

The project includes expansion and renovation of the Charles E. Maedgen Jr. Theatre, housed within the J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual and Performing Arts.

The project, made possible by a $10 million donation from the J.T. & Margaret Talkington Charitable Foundation, will provide cutting-edge technology and new study, rehearsal and performance spaces for students and faculty within the School of Theatre & Dance.

The renovations and expansion plans include a 178-seat black-box theater, lighting and computer-assisted design and drafting labs, makeup and dressing rooms and three 30-seat classrooms.

Tech University System Chancellor Robert Duncan, Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec and TCVPA Dean Noel Zahler will deliver remarks prior to the groundbreaking.

The event program will take place inside the Charles E. Maedgen Jr. Theatre, located at 2812 18th Street, at 3:00 p.m. on Friday August 11th.

Immediately following, a groundbreaking with officials will take place outdoors, north of the Maedgen Theatre entrance. Guest parking is available in the R3 Lot, south of the Psychology Building.
