In the race for Governor, Texas Governor Greg Abbott appears set for re-election. While it is a long way until the November election, Abbott leads his Democratic challenger, Lupe Valdez, by 19 points in the latest Quinnipiac poll.

Abbott leads Valdez 53-34% in the latest poll conducted by Quinnipiac.

Abbott leads among men (58-28%), women (48-40%), and white voters (69-22%). Valdez leads among black voters (66-21%) and has a slight lead among Hispanic voters (43-39%).

The poll also showed that 60% of Texas voters approve of the job Governor Abbott is doing. 53% of voters did not know enough about Valdez to form an opinion of her.

The poll was conducted May 23-29 and surveyed 961 registered Texas voters with a margin of error of +/-3.8 percentage points.
