Lubbock County Horticulture Extension Agent Vikram Baliga joined Lubbock's First News Thursday (July 2) to talk grapes.

"A lot of the sugar content depends on one, how much rainfall we get, which this year was a good year, and also how hot it is," said Baliga regarding the sweetness of fruit such as grapes. "Grapes do great here. They're a great crop."

In the state of Texas, grape production is big business. With the hot, dry summers, it actually help build up sugars in the grape, making them great for wine-making. The grapes in this area are top notch.
