Texas has a new university --   WGU Texas.  It’s a subsidiary of Western Governors University, which is an accredited, non-profit university.

In a news release from the governor’s office, WGU Texas is described as an online university that will “make a college degree more affordable and accessible for Texans.”

“By offering online, competency-based courses in key workforce areas, WGU Texas provides another flexible, affordable way for Texans to fulfill their potential and contribute their talents for years and decades to come, without any need for state funding,” Perry said.

As a competency-based university, WGU awards degrees as students demonstrate their knowledge and abilities, rather than as they accumulate credit hours.
