There has been quite a buzz about the Battleground Texas group, who aims to turn Texas into a blue state. However, Mackowiak believes the group is not that big of a threat at the moment, and for now, Texas continues to be a Republican stronghold.
“The Democratic party statewide in Texas is well behind the Republican party. So in order for them to make a real difference, it’s going to be not a two-year commitment, but a four, six or eight-year commitment. And to do the real organizing that they’re talking about, and succeeding, and winning statewide elections, that’s the kind of commitment it’s going to take.”
Mackoiwak added that he could see Texas indeed becoming a battleground state, but that would not happen for at least 8 to 12 years, and certainly not be 2016 at Battleground Texas predicts.
Mackoiwak also talked about last week’s sequester. He said that in a way, both sides lost on the sequester deal. He explained that Republicans did get their spending cuts, but not the cuts they were looking for, while the Democrats really overplayed the “doom and gloom” aspect.
