On the Monday edition of The Chad Hasty Show, GOP strategist and co-founder of MustReadTexas.com Matt Mackowiak talked with Chad Hasty about the latest going on statewide and nationally.

After the chaotic end to the first special session, the second special session will begin in Austin today. Mackowiak said he expected it to not last quite as long as the first session, and that some are already looking to July 9th or 11th as a target date to finish the session by.

As for the madness that erupted at the end of last week's session, Mackowiak said there was plenty of blame to go around for things getting out of hand. But although it was clear that there was a serious lack of leadership from the Republicans last week, Mackowiak argued that it was not completely their fault.

"I wouldn't necessarily put the blame totally on Republicans. You had hundreds, if not thousand,s of activists that came into the Capitol with the sole intention of subverting democracy, preventing the Texas senate from voting. I'm all for folks showing up and loving their member of Congress and testifying at the opening hearings and things like that. But the fact that they were yelling at the top of their lungs, resisting arrest from Texas Department of public Safety officials, that's a totally different level."

Mackowiak also shared his views on the Democrats' "rising star" Senator Wendy Davis. He said that Davis' argument that Governor Rick Perry and the Republicans using the abortion issue to push their own political agenda is a case of the pot calling the kettle black, since she's doing the exact same thing. He added that right now, the only one who's really benefitting at all form this abortion argument is Davis herself.
