On the Monday edition of The Chad Hasty Show, Matt Mackowiak, GOP strategist and co-founder of MustReadTexas.com, spoke with Chad Hasty about the latest state and national news.

Texas Governor Rick Perry continues to be one of the biggest Republican leaders in the US-Mexico border crisis. Mackowiak said that Congress and the president's inaction on the border crisis is only serving to highlight Perry's leadership in the matter, and that the crisis has actually been a great help to Perry politically.

Mackowiak also discussed the differences between Perry's approach to border security and Senator Ted Cruz's approach. He said that while Cruz seems to be taking a more hard-lined approach to the border crisis, Perry is approaching it from a more executive angle.

Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has also come back into the spotlight, having shown up at several fundraising events. Mackowiak commented that, by comparison, there are only a few places Obama can go to garner any kind of support or fundraising. But he also added that at the moment, it doesn't seem that Romney is interested in a 2016 bid.

Matt Mackowiak appears every Monday at 9:35 during The Chad Hasty Show. You can also follow Mackowiak on Twitter: @MattMackowiak.
