A town hall meeting regarding a Lubbock library has been cancelled.

The meeting regarding Godeke Library was scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, February 7th at the library, but has been cancelled.

The meeting has not yet been rescheduled.

Godeke Library, currently located in a shopping center at 6707 Slide Road, has been a controversial topic over the past few months, as Lubbock’s mayor has taken issue with the cost of the lease.

The lease for the library currently costs $25,000 per month. Lubbock Mayor Glen Robertson proposed purchasing a new building in the 3800 block of 50th Street, but the rest of the Lubbock City Council chose not to support that particular spot.

Some citizens voiced support for the library to move toward southwest Lubbock instead of the proposed central Lubbock location.

More on the discussion to move the Godeke Library is available here.
