GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) — Authorities say a man who shot at police in North Carolina is dead along with a neighbor shot by the gunman in an incident that also wounded a woman and two police officers.

Gaston County Assistant Police Chief Joseph Ramey said at a news conference that the injuries to his officers didn't appear to be life-threatening.

Ramsey says the officers came to the neighborhood Saturday night after getting a 911 call that a gunman had shot and killed a neighbor in a home in Gastonia, about 20 miles west of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Ramsey says the suspected gunman then fired on police, who shot back.

The assistant chief says a woman wounded at some point is expected to survive.

The names of the people involved have not been released.
