The month of May of hasn’t been kind to motorists’ wallets in Lubbock.

Gas prices have increased 26 cents from the beginning of the month. According to this week’s KFYO News Gas Price Survey the average retail price of regular unleaded fuel in Lubbock spiked 23 cents to $3.33 per gallon.

Prices in the Lone Star State increased as well. AAA Texas reports the average price rose four cents to $3.38 per gallon. Drivers in Dallas/Fort Worth are paying the state's highest prices at $3.41 per gallon while the Beaumont area has the cheapest average at $3.28 per gallon.

The national average rose three cents to $3.55 per gallon this week.
