Funeral Director Calvillo to Run for Lubbock County Commissioner Seat

A Lubbock businessman will announce his candidacy for County office Tuesday.

Richard Calvillo plans to announce that he will run in the Democrat primary for Lubbock County Commissioner Precinct 3 at Hillcrest Country Club at 10 a.m Tuesday.

That office is currently held by Democrat Gilbert Flores, who was originally elected in 2008.

Calvillo has owned Calvillo Funeral Home since 1992, and has been involved with the Lubbock Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

“The economy has taken a greater toll on the citizens of Precinct 3 than other citizens of Lubbock”, Calvillo said in a press release.

He continued, saying “As commissioner, I plan to provide the business leadership necessary to increase the number of Sheriff patrols with faster response times, vastly improve county road maintenance and provide the business friendly environment necessary to increase business development and jobs in Precinct 3.”
