Although authorities are still trying to determine the specifics, they do say the death of a Frenship ISD student does not appear to be a hit-and-run. 17 year-old Connor Mercer was laying in the middle of a road when he was hit by the large truck sometime late Saturday night or Sunday morning. A 9-1-1 call was made around 3:30am Sunday reporting the incident on Upland Avenue near 87th Street.

The truck is in police custody and does not demonstrate damage associated with typical hit-and-runs.  Authorities know who hit Mercer and say that charges may not be filed, due to evidence gathered so far. Authorities say they still have a few more leads to follow before a formal decision can be made.

Mercer had reportedly been at a party before the accident, although authorities are still trying to narrow down what happened in the minutes before the accident. Lubbock Police are continuing their investigation into Mercer’s death and are also awaiting toxicology results. Anyone with information should call Crime Line at 741-1000. The TABC is considering launching an investigation, and has requested information from the LPD.
