FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe Discusses New Book: “Don’t Hurt People And Don’t Take Their Stuff” [AUDIO]
On the Thursday edition of The Chad Hasty Show, Matt Kibbe, president and CEO of FreedomWorks, spoke with Chad Hasty about his new book, "Don't Hurt People And Don't Take Their Stuff: A Libertarian Manifesto."
Kibbe explained that many books and documents on Libertarianism were very complex and over 700 pages long, and he wanted to write something more concise and easier to understand. After reading some of these documents, he determined that Libertarianism was really about protecting the rights and liberties of the individual and keeping big government out of private lives, or to put it more concisely, "Don't Hurt People And Don't Take Their Stuff."
In his book, Kibbe discussed his 6 rules for reclaiming individual liberty, including personal responsibility and hard work. Kibbe believes the Libertarian movement is starting to catch on for two reasons: the ease of the Internet for gathering information and decentralizing knowledge, and a "perfect storm" of big government overreach and abuse.
"I think [the size and growth of the federal government] is part of it. It's a perfect storm of the abuse of executive powers, and targeting by the IRS and the implementation of Obamacare, all these things that the Obama administration is doing. But more importanty, I think it's actually about the decentralizing, democratizing nature of the Internet. People are able to go get access to ideas that they never got in high school, they never got in college...but today, if you're eighteen years old and you're trying to figure out who you are, you can just Google it."
Kibbe also shared his thoughts on the current field of 2016 candidates and how they stack up to Libertarian values and ideals.
