Free Glasses for Veterans and Walk for Diabetes This Weekend

This Saturday you can help raise awareness of diabetes and it’s symptoms during UMC’s Diabetes Walk 2011. The walk at McKenzie Park raised over $9,000 last year, all of which was donated to the American Diabetes Association. Registration for the event begins at 8 am Saturday, and the walk starts at 9:00. The walk will begin on the northeast side of Mackenzie Park near the baseball fields.

The Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans for Foreign Wars and Mission 20/20 have partnered to present free reading glasses to local Veterans and their families. Saturday from 10 am until 3 pm veterans and their families can enjoy refreshments, a juke box and karaoke at 501 114^th Street as they line up to receive free reading glasses. Donations will be accepted to support veterans as well. There will be cookie decorating for children.
